What you can expect
Psychotherapy makes use of a trusting therapist-client relationship to make meaning of present day difficulties in the context of your whole life story. Relationship difficulties, work stress, parenting demands, the empty nest, relationship loss through death or divorce, and unexpected health events can trigger depression, anxiety, loss and grief. These emotions, when left unattended, can generate feelings of chronic stress and overwhelm.
My approach to helping clients reduce emotional suffering is two-pronged. Together we will identify how you learned to cope with difficult emotions in early life, while we work with how you manage emotional distress in your present day experience. As an understanding of your coping strategies expands, we will work to build on your core strengths to improve their efficacy. A sense of well-being will grow as you begin to navigate distressing emotions and life conflicts more skillfully, from a place of increased understanding of and compassion for yourself.
